Taking Steps!

Taking some steps!

Not taking steps, but loving the smile!

MeeMee Catchum

Last weekend we had a nice time just hanging out as a family. On Sunday we went to a nice park that is a bit further away from the house, just for the fun of it. We played, hiked a little, and roller skated (well, Ahmad and Miles skated, Hailey and I cheered!).

Miles has also still been so much into this being "stuck" thing. He really surprises me with so much being stuck because he can envision being stuck when I wouldn't even see it. Sitting on the couch, he likes to have pillows around him; in a chair, he wants to sit in the one with arms and be pushed in all the way so he's stuck; he'll crawl under my legs so my legs are on each side, the couch is behind him, and Hailey is in front of him; he now lines up all his stuffed animals along the outside of his bed so they make a line and he's stuck while he sleeps. It's somewhere between so very cute and funny and being a bit OCD. We'll have to see where this one ends up!

Exhibit A: being stuck at Nana and Grampie's

Miles has a new favorite toy now-his little matchbox cars. He has 4 of them and I think Nana gave him and he loves them. He carries them around in his pocket, has taken them to school (and shared them nicely with his friends), showed them to our neighbors, and even sleeps with them. It's pretty cute.

So much about Miles this time...he's been pretending that I'm in trouble a lot lately. He'll tell me to sit down, which I usually am, and turns on the time out timer and tells me I have to sit there until it goes off. However, we give him 3-4 minutes and he gives me like 45! He's also been talking to me more about being in trouble and what my behavior should be like. It's interesting to hear him talk and I know he's figuring out this whole behavior thing at school. I really think he's starting to get it and I hope we continue to have more good days than bad.

Working on taking some steps!

Miles also has been waking up a lot this past week. He's getting up usually about 4 or 5am, last night it was 3am, and wants to get up. After little convincing, Ahmad or I will lay with him for a few minutes until he's ready to go back to sleep. I hope that's over soon, I've been exhausted this past week! Plus, Hailey has been getting up 2 times a night this past week most nights, whereas before she was usually up only once. Miles has also been asking for a light at night sometimes now. He asked for me to leave on the hall light twice last week, something he has never done, and we ended up putting a night light in his room. However the past two nights now, he hasn't mentioned it and we haven't turned it on. Hopefully that is a passing phase; I just think it's hard to break that habit.

One day last week, we decided to go for a walk and Miles insisted on riding his bike, "just like Elliott does" (Elliott is our neighbor). We thought he could try, but figured it'd be a short walk. However, Miles surprised us and rode his bike all the way to the pool, where we played on the little playground next to it, and then all the way home. It's almost a mile round trip, so that was really cool he did that!

Miles has this word that he made up "meemee catchum" and randomly says it. We've asked him what it means, but he can't really say. I think I get it now though. I think it's an expression of happiness when he doesn't know what else to say. It's cute and I'm happy to hear him say it!

Miles had a decent week at school after having so much trouble the last two. He did well most of the week and had a few really good days, only to end on having to be picked up on Friday. He was jumping from the top of the slide and didn't want to stop when told to. I guess a kid was doing this last week and ended up breaking his arm. After he didn't listen, he was kicking and screaming and ended up up front. Ahmad went to get him and he ended up napping for a few hours. I had taken Hailey with me to work because Ahmad had some things he needed to do for work and I was only working a half day. She did great, played a bit and then I wrapped her up and she napped for the rest of the time. It was so very nice to have Hailey sleeping on my chest as I worked! As a punishment for Miles, he wasn't able to watch a DVD on the way down to Nana and Grampie's house. We weren't sure if that would be punishment for him or us, but it turned out ok. He played with a few toys and talked...for 2 hours! It was kinda funny. One of his funny comments along the way was "The band-aid is tickling my foot, but I'm not laughing. It's not a hard tickle, just a little tickle." We cracked up at that and he didn't understand why!

We had a great time at Nana and Grampie's house! We got in early on Friday, enjoyed dinner with Grampie and hung out. They have done some work on the house and it looks great! On Saturday, we hung out, did some shopping, played, and then went to Huber's. They have a petting zoo, playground, tractor rides, slides, etc. Miles and Nana had a great time and Grampie rested in the shade. Then we all enjoyed dinner there. Sunday after church, we did a few chores around the house and just enjoyed hanging out and a good lunch before heading home. Miles loved playing with Nana and exploring all over. His favorite is to play "balls". He likes to roll the pool balls around the table and try to knock others into the pockets. Hailey really enjoyed exploring her surroundings, especially the dogs-Ruby and Pearl. She loved crawling after them and watching them! It was so cute!

While we were there, I took Miles outside for a bit one time to just get him to calm down a bit as he was really needing a nap. Somehow I decided to ask him if he could be any animal, what would he be? He said he'd be a dolphin and he'd bite me. I found it funny because a dolphin was about the last animal I thought he'd ever say!

All in all, it was a great week and I'm excited about this one...after I get some sleep! :)

Sproinnnnggggg!

Zoo, Fair, and Fun

Hailey is unbelievable these days! She pulled up once a few weeks ago, shortly after beginning to crawl. I chalked it up to a fluke. But no.....she does it all the time now! She even took two tiny steps while standing up and holding onto the table one day. Cruising already?! She is definitely on the move and can crawl so fast! She wiggles all the time, loves jumping, and rolls all over when we try to get her changed. She cracks me up!

Miles is also up to his own shenanigans lately. He's begun getting up after we go through the entire bedtime routine, turns on his light (after very quietly closing his door all the way) and "reads" some books. At first we were going to try to change that and have him read books before we bug-bugged, but that didn't really work. He really likes reading by himself and doesn't stay up too late. I think it's pretty funny! One night, I went to make sure he was covered up before I went to bed and he was curled up on his bed with his slippers on...when Ahmad left his room and tucked him, no slippers...! He's also begun doing this "I'm full" dance. It's hilarious! He sticks his belly way out and rubs it while leaning backwards and says in a deep voice "My belly's full, my belly's full!" We cracked up so much that he has also modified it to "I'm hungry, my belly's hungry!"

My brother, Michael, came up to visit last weekend and we met up with the Illes Family for a fun day at the zoo. We had a real nice time visiting with everyone!

We got a great chance to meet up with our previous neighbors, Eric, Katie, Evelyn, Robyn, and Mary and go to the State Fair. We had a great time catching up and letting the kids play!

Choo Choo!

Where to start...it feels like forever since I've posted and I'm trying to remember what's been going on! Poor Miles, he's had a rough 2 weeks. Last week he didn't do well at school nearly every day. I think on Friday he finally had a good day. Then he was fine on Monday and had a really rough day on Tuesday and Wednesday. The daycare actually called me on Tuesday to come in and talk to him. He'd been up front twice before 11:30am-kicking, screaming, hitting. Not good at all. So I went and talked and he seemed a bit better by the time I left. Or so we thought. He was up front again during nap time. Then yesterday, they called and asked we come pick him up. He was just out of control. Ahmad went and got him and he sat the rest of the day. He fell asleep for several hours, but there was no TV, no toys, and he went to bed at 7:30. He had a good day today! Yea! I've been thinking for the last few days that I wanted to open that bottle I posted about earlier...pretty rough. And the hard part is finding the balance between disciplining him and empathizing with him. At one point, he did tell me that he was mad and me and Ahmad because we were playing with Hailey a lot. Ouch. We try to always include him and spend time with him too, but I guess we need more. So, we decided to spend more one on one time with him and of course had a nice long talk. I think he has a lot going on in that little head of his. He's getting used to Hailey now and realizing that she's here to stay; she's mobile now and getting into more things and can't 'sit and play' with him like she used to-she's always on the move!; our time is divided; he's learned some not so good behaviors at school and now has to learn why he can't act that way; and plus, he's 3! A lot to adjust to. We just have to help him the best way we can. I hope he does better.

Hailey being a cutie pie

Somewhere along the way, we took a walk and played at the neighborhood park....

(notice the backwards pants!)

Hailey ate real bananas...or at least attempted to eat them

Over the weekend, we had a great time! Saturday, we had pictures taken at JC Penny's for Hailey's 6 month photos. Of course we had some taken of Miles as well. They turned out SO cute! I love them and can't wait to get them next week. I wish I'd ordered a few things differently, but I think we'll be ok. Then we had lunch at the mall and let Miles play on the playland. When we got home, Miles and Ahmad left and headed to the Motor Speedway for some father/son time while Hailey and I headed to a baby shower for a friend I used to work with. It was a good day!

Miles kisses the bricks!

Choo choo! All aboard!

I'd take her anywhere!

Then on Sunday, we enjoyed a nice evening with the Klein family. Thank God for good friends!

Just enjoying our time and trying to do what's right...

Did You Ever?

Did you ever just want to bottle a moment, a minute, an hour, a day and save it forever? Then you could open that bottle up when you were feeling your crummiest and relive that most wonderful precious moment? I want to bottle today. I want to bottle the smiles I saw on my children's faces all day, the dimples in their cheeks, the gleem in their eyes. I want to bottle their hugs, their kisses, their squeezes. I want to bottle the way they lovingly looked at each other and enjoyed each other's company. I want to bottle their responsiveness to us, the direction they took, the "pleases" and the "thank yous". I want to bottle the snuggles. I want to bottle good friends and new life. I want to bottle the warm sunshine and blue skies. I want to bottle the outdoors, the growing plants, the bike rides, baseballs, and little ants. I want to bottle quality time, new experiences, curiosity, exploring the world through our children's eyes. I want to bottle new adventures and air vents. I want to bottle giggles and love. I want to bottle the smooth skin and long eye lashes, the good health and physical fitness. I want to bottle the excitement for the future and the anxiousness of the unknown; the wonderment of what will come and the contentment with what we have. I want to bottle it all and put it under my pillow and save it for a time of uneasiness, a time of doubt, a time of fear, a time of change, a time of tears and then I'll remember the simple things; the love, the tenderness, the hope and excitement I have in my life.

Breakthrough! Mommy Intuition

So this morning, Hailey decided she just wasn't hungry and was a little bit fussy. I tried to nurse her when she got up, but she wasn't interested-she wanted to talk to Miles! So after she got dressed, Ahmad tried to give her some oatmeal. She ate a few bites, but then was fussing. Then he tried to give her her medicine. She's been on an antibiotic for over 2 weeks now-it was supposed to be a 10 day supply, but since it was never ending and she still had some symptoms, we kept giving it to her. Well, this morning she decided she was done. She clamped her little mouth shut and squinched up her eyes and turned her head from side to side to avoid that little dropper! It was pretty funny. She was having nothing to do with it. We managed to get a few drops down her, but then gave up and decided she was done with her medicine. It's actually kinda funny-Miles loves taking his medicine! I guess we had it easy the first time around on that one! At any rate, she did nurse again, pretty well, but still had a little bit of a fuss. Not enough to really make a big deal about anything, but enough for mommy intuition to kick in. I was driving them to daycare when I thought-maybe her teeth are hurting. Her two bottoms have been making big bumps on her gums and we thought they ought to be in soon. When we got to daycare, I checked, and sure enough-breakthrough! One, the bottom front right, has come through. I cannot believe my little baby girl has a tooth! Time is sure flying by and she's growing growing. Bittersweet....I love you little Hailey!
